Dress Yourself

She dresses herself and does her own hair and feels mighty proud. I smile and I take her proudly.

When my oldest Littles were little. I picked everything out, made sure it was matching, pressed and cut their hair short so it wouldn't be messy.

Some girls wear neat sundresses and sandals in spring and some wear what they want including earmuffs.

20 years ago I would have made her change, now I just say, "you look beautiful" or "sparkle the way you want."

When Little Em saw these pink boots and had to have them in a way like no other shoes ever.  I knew her spirit would be crushed and not spoiled to get her way.
It was different then giving in to her plead it was recognizing that which speaks to her.

I didn't realize that dressing yourself at such a young age would give more confidence, autonomy and sense of self. When Jo was born with such sensitivities, that the clothes he wore felt like prison, he had to pick out his own out and thus began the freedom.
My Jo & Gigi dress with this same freedom today. They are comfortable in their own skin. They don't care that they aren't wearing what is "in", or what everyone else considers normal??
They wear what they like, what makes them comfortable, what speaks to them. When I have tried to suggest something different, they tell me they are comfortable, and they feel confident.

was telling Big Little, "I can never find what I like when I go shopping for clothes." and she responded, "...that's because you like to be an individual mom, and when you walk in to the store they are selling what everyone else is buying."

Those are some great words! And this is one of my favorite outfits. Thrifted 50's skirt and 70's belt with a new Loft Brushed  tee.

I like different. If I can't find what I like I usually end up wearing black or grey or shirts with words.

I like that WE are all different...
and meant to be that way. I love my Biggest's whimsical style.

I'm so glad, happy, and ecstatic when my Littles express themselves and find comfort in their clothing.

Creativity is the yearning of our souls, so I am not at all surprised when my Big Little decided to design her own clothing line.

Or when my Biggest Little shows up to a dance party at my house in cloud boots and violet hair.

Just be you! What ever that means to you. Be your kind of wonderful.

From me to you w love, M
