A family pact
We made a family pact tonight.
We teach our children to be examples of Jesus Christ:
to be kind to others, to love all, forgive & not be offended, help lift others burdens & show compassion.
I now realize, I need to make a conscious effort to share, with my children, how the gospel helps me in my daily life, how the Atonement is not just for death, but is part of everyday, as I pray and ask for help and lean on Him.
They don't really understand this concept and it's crucial.
I only learned it myself a few years ago. I know that He has suffered all that we will ever suffer and He will help us when we ask. Everyone's struggles aren't the same as mine.
When my children need help, they come to me, they rely on me first. I rely on Him, but they don't know this personal journey, my inner struggles and concerns, and now I see that it's important that they know exactly how He has helped. They don't always need to know the exact problem, that might be too much weight for them, but they should know the blessings and the solution provided.
I want so badly for them to "hear the music, not just know the dance steps". It's not enough to be a good example, I must share my experiences & testimony of faith with them, so they will know what this means and feel it. Then when I can't help them, they will know that what I have taught them is real, and that they have a place to turn, that He will help them, always.
The gospel is not just about instructions. It's about love and sharing and patience and long suffering with those in whom we care. We need to help them feel the music.
To my children, I love you dearly. He does too.
from me to you w love, Mommer
