a little bit of whimsy, a whole lot of love
2-14-2014
Valentines Day is all about the Love baby!
It was sad to take down the balloons and lanterns. The room seemed bare.
After taking the balloons and lanterns down, I really needed to add some color and whimsy. I have always wanted to make Poms to hang from the ceiling.
Using tissue paper that was only 10cents a sheet from Hobby Lobby.
I used 10 sheets for one pom, so it cost $1.00 each to make.
Six poms, and wala magic!
It was hard to make the first one, but then, we got the hang of it.
They looked better once up, when you aren't concentrating on their imperfections.
Oh, and tying with string instead of ribbon as shown is much better.
I changed the New Years Eve Banner that I only pinned, instead of sewing and making permanent.
I could re-use all the items for something else if I want, and it saves some money.
The banner went from pendant flags to hearts.
I cut out hearts from scrapbook paper and glued them to string. Two hearts stuck together with string in the middle to hang from above.
I think it turned out magical.
{simple and inexpensive}
I take too many pictures. My phone is overloaded. I found an app called Pic Stitch.
You can't see as much detail, but it sure saves space and I need that right now. :)
[one of these poms is red and the other hot pink, you can't really see it in this picture that well.]
I purchased the above quilting sqaures using a 40%coupon off at Michaels.
You can go directly to their site and print a coupon or just show it to them from your phone.
I only used a third of the squares for this project. I like that you can get coordinating fabric already cut into small squares to use for small projects. {$3.00}
I made another banner for the fireplace using an old mint blue sheet and a polka dotted sample fabric for .99 cents from JoAnn's Fabric Store.
Papa Murphys Pizza sells heart shaped pizzas for $8.00 around Valentines day.
I bought 2.
Then I purchased red hots, mint dots and cherry sours $1.00 each, and some white sprinkles and plates, $1.00. YEP!
A Mom contributed the Red Devil's food cupcakes.
It has been my experience, that we would have many half full bottles left over after our get togethers. This solves that problem. Everyone knows, whose bottle is whose.
$3.00 for 36 bottles at Costco.
For a craft we decorated cupcakes and made hearts out of everyones' hands.
Where their index finger and thumb touch to make a heart shape. I traced their hands and they decorated them and cut them out. I don't know why I didn't get a picture of this, probably because this was a very busy project and they used glue glitter that was very messy.
Next time no glue glitter {haha}!
Because Gigi goes to a different school than most of her friends, it is nice when we can create a celebration to have them come over and enjoy each other's company.
All the girls had a picture taken in front of the fireplace.
Here's Gigi...
I spent about $36.00 for this whole thing, but I am planning on using the heart banner for all future parties and the polka dot banner will be re-used for Dr. Seuss' birthday over and over again.
I'll have plenty of water left over and tissue paper for mom poms too.
During this holiday season, Little Em loved her heart bowls, which we use every year. We pack them away in the Valentine box so we can use them over and over. I bought these bowls at Hallmark several years ago after Valentines day, at a discount.
I made some homemade cards.
I tried a new thing....sewing on paper... it is fun!!
Then for my newest friends; some calling cards to get together soon.

Mister D came home and surprised everyone with a Valentine just for them.
This is Little Em's card.
Thumb Bunny Love you....awe...and a tube of mini m&m's.
I love my Mister D and all he does for our Littles.
Here's a little something to share,
My Mister asked me to marry him on Valentines Day 17 years ago!!
The best of Love to you and yours, Muah!
from me to you w love, M
