Stirring things up for a NOT bummer summer!

I am trying to help Gigi accomplish her goals for

                   a "NOT Bummer Summer"....
One of her goals is to bake a cake and decorate it.

We went to lunch the other day and looked through this great cupcake book.

{I give credit to this book, I left it with Grammy so, I'll add title later,  but I am not endorsing or promoting it, I guess that's important to say, but we admire the work.}

so.................THIS IS THE CAKE SHE CHOSE FOR INSPIRATION PIECE.

Since we can't go to the beach and build sand castles out of sand....

......because of this......little pink glitter cast.....

......we are going to make a sand castle cake!!!

We went shopping for supplies, these are for making the flags and sand...

We bought 2 different kinds of ice cream cones, vanilla wafers, gum, pretzels, cheerios, cake mixes, frosting, sprinkles, stuff to make a butter-cream frosting; Crisco, powder sugar, and then cocoa powder, eggs, cup cake liners in different sizes and some round cake pans.

                                                               {wish us amateurs luck}

This was really adding up... I only had one cupcake pan so we decided we needed to be "penny pinchers" and went to the thrift store to see if we could find some there....and I swear I'm being watched over, it seems that whenever I need to go to the second hand store to be frugal, I am always blessed with what I need.

We found 2 pans; an over sized muffin pan and a mini pan!!

Scored for $4.00 each. I actually spent about $40 bucks for all the ingredients so every penny that could be pinched was much appreciated and since I don't see us being bakers anytime soon, I didn't mind that these pans were what they were....in fact I was and am grateful. {:)}

I took a bunch of stuff to Grammy's house and forgot to picture it.
She is going to help Gigi the day after we bake. {!}  After meeting with her and talking to her,
{she was a cake decorator for years}...we realized we had much to bake and this project was getting bigger and bigger by the minute!!

                                            SO..........

We decided to invite a friend over {and her mom, brother and little sister} to help stir things up.

I told them how important it was to read a recipe all the way through first, then we did one batch together and then I let them do the next batch by themselves...

is it even called a batch?
 Like a batch of cookies?
 I really don't know what I am talking about...but, we are baking.  {:)}

They were so cute and careful.

They took turns working together very nicely.

After cup cakes then cake.....

Little Em was close by setting up a little party of her own.{:)} In between the baking time, the girls played "tea party" with her.

We could have cooked them a little less I think. {:)}

I made my mother-in-loves famous chocolate frosting for some cupcakes we would eat right away.

They frosted them and put fresh from the farm stand strawberries on them. YUM!!

Then in keeping with the theme of  "stirring things up" I had them paint some wooden "stir"
spoons.

Izzy wanted to make hers' flip back and forth from happy to mad...

GRRR...{:)}

Before I knew it, Gigi was working on something just her own....

a little red headed ballerina...

with a bun!!

Side view was too cute!!

Izzy thought she messed up and I said there are NO mistakes with art. {RIGHT?!}

Then they wanted to put dresses on them, so I had them pick out some scrap fabric and  cut little triangles from a popcorn box and they traced and glued the material to them.

While all this was happening the boys played football, Pokemon, talked about Scouts and then played video games!! Not a single picture. I tried to get them to paint...but, they wanted nothing to do with it.
I was just glad everyone was having fun in this 105 degree weather!

They came into the room where the boys were and showed us their dolls...
... and their doll faces. {:)}

At the end of the play date...we had 24 mini cupcakes, 6 large cupcakes, 12 medium cup cakes and 2 round cakes.
 Minus the few we ate. {:)} oh, and 4 Little people spoons...
 and one "Little" art piece...

Tomorrow Gigi and Grammy are putting the cake together!!!

I think that will be deserving of another post!!

from me to you w love, M
