ASL is more than a language...

Friday night after Jo left for camp, I left to support the "ASL epic event" organized by our friend and ASL teacher.

Our friend shared how he met Em and I at Target....

He was in line, in front of us, signing to his sister.

Em & I noticed, I tapped him on the shoulder and introduced ourselves.

She knew a little bit of Sign Language because of  "Signing Time", a video series teaching sign language to young children.

She has been watching them since she was 1 & 1/2.

So, I tapped him on the shoulder and said "hello". Em smiled and signed some of the items on the conveyor belt; Apple, candy, and movie.

AND that started our friendship.

We've been meeting at a local coffee shop. My daughters, and even their friends.

Shortly afterwards we found out he was an artist, amongst many other talents as a dancer, cosmetologist, and even an actor. It's been almost a year now, of art, gathering, and learning sign language, meeting his friends too.

We couldn't be more grateful for his friendship and generosity of time and spirit.

We are blessed to know him. He is patient with my Little Em and she is learning much more than ASL as we meet to draw, sit, show and tell.

Thank you, Gerry, thank you from Em & I.

from me to you w love,
M
