Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without.
Sometimes you have to start fresh and new and sometimes, the older things are, the better they get,
like friends and blue jeans.
Going through all my stuff every time I move, makes me rethink what I HAVE and what I NEED. I got rid of a lot of things before I moved and after moving, realized I could get rid of even more.
A new space "NEEDs" things. I'll use this term loosely as I guess I could have lived with the exsisting curtains, but really they had seen much better days.
The house needed newness, little puffs of air to rekindle a fire of love and family, like the first day it was occupied over 1/2 a century ago, the walls and curtains dressed up anew and life breathed in sweetly then.
Now we are here, and can tell the life within the walls once danced, but then got tired and retired to the passing of time and an end of a season. I know this house wants to dance again and that is what we set out to do.
And we are dancing....see on IG. ;)
I wanted a modern, but a little rustic, and a little country look for this home.
I choose a patterned burlap for a rustic look but the pattern add a little French country. This was my first project w burlap. Hmm... I think my sewing machine is mad at me. I hope it will let me continue on to the next project.
I want to say I admire the 90 year old women who lived in this house for about half a century. She raised her only child here, managed a farm and was a strong voice in the community.
I love the phrase "use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without." I try hard to use everything until it's last days -
So, I love seeing this repair, and that I know the person whose hands mended it. I love that she lives just down the road and we can hear her stories and learn about the plants surrounding us.
While on the subject of wear it out, I'd like to share a few of my favorites with you.
My holey jeans,
and towels, my decade old towels.
Also, there is the purse I've had for 8 years that I made a deal with myself when I purchased it, for almost $100.00 for myself as a birthday present that I would not replace until it died.
All leather. Remarkable Lamarth purse, Never had I spent that much money on a purse, but I would buy cheap purses like lipstick, so I told myself no more purse buying until this one breaks, and then it did, well sorta. The handle started to detach and fall off my shoulder. It was hard to find a replacement and I was no longer in the market for another $100 purse...so after much looking and strap falling, I decided on a new colorful Fossil bag. Big, but not too big. Pricey-no-Marshslls. ;)
And then there's my little black dress, that I've have for ten years and even wore when pregnant. I still wear and love that dress.
It's so versatile. I even wore it to my first "Moms Night Out Please", last night.
Well truly, I am trying to live with less and getting rid of what I don't need, unless it's sentimental, holey and has heart.
I'm trying to live simply and love abundantly.
