My obsession with banners

Banners, banners, banners.... I love making them.

They are so quick and easy ,
and add just a bit of whimsy to make any occasion seem special.

I was asked to teach a class on how to make banners in November.

I went to the garage to pull out a few from their designated boxes.

Halloween! This was my very first banner I made. Triangles, little bits of ribbon and a long piece of polka dot ribbon to put it all together.

Can you see the little bits of ribbon between the triangles?

For Fall/thanksgiving, I made this double sided with yellow gingham on the back. I used the excess material of a large table cloth for this and then I had a coordinating table and banner. {wink wink}

I know you can't see the twine and tags very well, but these say, I am thankful for...and then guests write what they want.

This is my most recent banner. This is very simple. I cut a triangle out of a cardboard, traced triangles onto fabric and felt squares. Then I used pins to attach them to the ribbon and then sew a straight line. Easy peasy!! The felt seems to give it a little more substance, I think I'll start doing that from now on.

Can you see the pins here? Here is a trick...if you really don't think you can sew...buy some colorful pins with circle tops and instead of putting the pins vertical, put them horizontal and then hang up it up!!! No one will ever know...they will just think that's how it was suppose to be, or not even notice it at all, because the fabric is so dang stinkin' cute!!

See this valentine heart one??? No sewing, pins!!! I made this for Valentines day and never took it down. I didn't think it was going to become such a permanent piece in my dining/craft room, so I made it temporary. I was going to re-use all the materials. Can barely see the pins right!! Never taking it down!

Closer look....

I used the bottom of the material that I cut for the above banner to make this banner for our trampoline.

Don't worry this picture was taken before Little Em broke her leg. Sadly, she hasn't been on it since.
 {:(}

A school banner for a friend that home schools....I need to take it to her! ASAP

My back to school banner using quilting squares I cut up into triangles and found this adorable bus ribbon!

This was one of my most favorite banners.  Black card stock, pictures & post cards from those we love. Attached simply with paper clips.

I told you I love banners!!! I'm surprised My Mister puts up with such whimsy. {wink wink}
This was super easy; twine, granny sqaures cut in half with pinking shears and then folded in half over the twine, pinned {!!} and repeat. I tried to use all the colors in the surrounding paintings ...wish the blue was more turquoise, like the globe. I'll probably switch that color out some day and replace.  {:)}

 I really love this next banner, it is the feeling I hope to create in my home. The lighting is very bad in this room and I've tried to take a picture from many differnt angles but, it just doesn't do it justice.   It says....JUST BE in the middle and then hanging from each side...happy...happy...

Here's a close up of one side of the banner above. I created a little happy spot outside just for me to sit and watch Little Em.

I decided why not have banners out doors...I have more space!!!
This is just a simple banner using old shabby chic sheets, cutting them into 12 inch strips and then tying them on a clothesline!!!

Makes a nice little backdrop don't ya think...and it it gets messed up, who cares, throw it away and make another. {:)}

Last but not least! Our Little Craft Shack!!!
Banner made out of vinyl shopping bags, cut into circle for a different look and attached to ribbon. I tried to coordinate the colors of our worn out shed into the banner to give it a little makeover with very little effort. {wink}

And here's the inside, more banners...

I am going to add twinkle light soon!!! But My Mister did put in some hanging lights!

So, it's a little embarrassing that I have sooo many banners,
 but truly they make me happy and I'm always finding something I can recycle to make more.

Just create....something anything!!! I know you'll feel good.

If there is anyone out there besides my dad reading this....
Give it a try...
take a picture and send it to me,  hashtag TheLittleCraftShack on Instagram and tag me @gessellfamilyof7,  I'd love to see your creation.

From me to you with love, M
