Kiss the Cook!
My Little J....who is not so little any more......has always liked to cook and bake.
Pizza is a great hands first cooking/baking recipe to teach your Littles. In the past I used to purchase pizza dough. I was too intimidated to make my own. Now, I make it almost weekly. :)
It is a great tradition and I love to to share with each new Little. I remembered I had this picture.
The tradition continues.... Little J in 2003....................Little Em 2014!!
J needed to complete 3 days worth of meals with the family and also make the meals at an overnight cam pout with his troop as head cook, cooking for 3-4 boys. He had to go buy the food and find out costs involved and use a budget to feed everyone. In this case the camp consisted of 12 people, so another head cook and some assistants were assigned to help.
He was also learning how to bake and decorate. {!} Of course he had to learn special family recipes.
He was challenged to give a talent or service for a fundraising event to help him earn money for BOY SCOUT camp. He choose to make a dessert for each Monday in a months' time. The family who had the highest bid won.
At first this really frustrated him, but then I told him it didn't have to be perfect. Practice will make you better, but you will never be perfect. The goal is to try your best. That's how it should be with all things right?
Looking good.
Now, the fun part. To help make it a little more masculine, I bought these mustaches. He placed one on every other one and the ones in between received little flags with the troop number.
I made a little sign to show our thanks.
Thought we would end his 3 days of 3 meals with homemade pizza....
The dough is ready...
He made his own sauce... tomato sauce and 1 tsp of all; basil, thyme, rosemary & oregano
Sliced pepperoni from the deli...The completed project...ready to eat!
I am so happy to have a son. I am glad I get to serve where he spends his time away from home.
It gives us some one on one time, plus I can sit back and watch him in action. I love the Boy Scout program and the man Little J is becoming because of it.
from me to you with love, M
