You can be a Star.

The youth program at our church put together a talent/fashion show.
I am so grateful for this program called, Faith in God for girls.
The leaders are inspiring.
They give of their time and talents willingly and lovingly.

This is just after the fashion show. She is still in "model mode"
They are helping me teach my Little more about gospel principles in a way that I can not. With a group of girls, their peers.  Helping them build relationships and creating opportunities to learn, serve and grow.

This Talent/Fashion show was emphasizing poise, thriftiness, and the unique beauty of others.

They were each asked to purchase an outfit from the Thrift Store. It was to be modest and cheap.
We looked in the Penny Saver and found a coupon to a Thrift Store and went shopping.
She found an outfit complete with new shoes.  {plus a bonus shirt.}
Here is her outfit. The shirt and shorts were $3.99 and the shoes $5.00. We had a coupon for 40% off making this outfit just $8.00 I think it is cute. The shorts were just the right length, which is really hard to find. The thrift store is not new to us, we have a few favorite ones that we go first when looking for staples and then we will update our wardrobe with styles from Target or Old Navy. Long gone are the days of J.Crew and the Gap. But, truly it is in the searching and the finding of a good deal, that makes us happy most.  Luckily I'm not still growing so many of my staple clothes are from when my budget was bigger, but I love Target and Thrift stores too. Plus, my style is different, maybe a little off, but I like it that way. It means anything goes. :)

They practiced their walk on the "runway"!
and rehearsed a final dance to the I'm So Happy song by Pharrell Williams.
(this is our family athem song on Sundays, when the bigger Littles come home we have this dance.)

The next thing they were to do was to make a skirt.  We purchase a a yard of material for $1.50 {!}  at Walmart! She liked the vintage look and shade of pink. I liked the polka dots and decided to buy both and make another skirt later.

I started the project with her and quickly found that my skills weren't as good as the ladies that were their to help. I have never used a pattern, I just sort of piece things together. I was happy that they were able to share their talent with the girls so when we couldn't finish this project together. I was glad they were there to help.

She finished in the hour and a half she worked with them.

She showed it off for me when I picked her up. I think she learned how to sew a hem, better than I, now she can teach me. :)
.

I forgot my camera!!!
This was the only shot I caught.
I hope that someone else took some.

In the end, she was so filled with joy. She learned about modesty, thriftiness, and learned a new sewing skill.

I admire the leaders and appreciate all they do for all our Littles.
I am thankful for the gospel principles that they reinforce to strengthen our youth.
