Sheets, blankets, pillows = forts

Happiness, our Heritage, by President Ucthdorf is one of my favorite talks.
It is wonderful and inspiring. I hope you like it.

This talk was given in 2008, it started a change in my heart to find more happiness and to create daily.
I have read it many times since then, and in searching for my talent I thought once again of this message.

There was a Mormon message made just for this talk. I love it.
I shared this in an earlier blog post, you can find it under Create.
Check it out if you like.

He says, "create something...anything....even if its not perfect".
That's what I do {almost} everyday.

Here is one of my creations, not original, as we have all made a fort, right?
This is what I love to do with sheets, blankets & pillows especially when stuck in the house because of weather or sickness.

Old shabby chic sheets can be used for so many things. I've had these sheets since Little G was a toddler.  They got so thin in the middle it was time to get new ones.

    Forts in the house.

Turn two chairs out, parallel, apart from each other, then drape the sheets and put either rubber bands or ribbon around the knobs of the chair rails and voila'...
An easy make-shift fort. Hours of play in the winter time, when fort making can't be done outside.

During the week of Dr. Seuss' birthday, I pulled out all of Dr. Seuss' books and created a place just to sit and read that would be special.

The fort stayed up for awhile and her Baby Dolls moved in one by one to join her.

I find them in their own fort making on Saturday morning. Little G tucks the ends into the couch cushions and WA LA ...fun.

This was a sick day with LOTS of pillows and blankets for comfort.
Nothing like a fort!
This is a must on a sick day.
They can only stay in bed for so long, when they are sick Littles they still want some fun.

Little Gigi and Mister D were served soup in bed on this sick day.

Little Em wanted to join them and was really sad that she couldn't.
So....
I got the step stool out of the garage.

This was a first for her....TV!
EATING ON A TRAY!  IN THE FAMILY ROOM!!

OOOHHHH NOOOOO!!

                                                     Forts outside.

This by far was/is my favorite use for old sheets...

A hanging fort!!!

I just hung a clothesline from one tree to another.
Then I hung the sheets using wooden clothespins.
I cut the elastic gathering from the box sheet, and it made a nice long line to hang some knotted strips of material...for a lack of better description. That is just what I did.

I loved these moments, but learned something about this tree.
It not only drops some really bad berries, and the birds sit and go poop from the branches and then they land on my beloved-ness.

After they received some abuse I washed them, but to only find them stained.
They would not be good as a whole, but I can still salvage some strips out of them.

Cut into strips along with other piece of material.

The bottom row is done, and the top row will have to wait for the next day.

 Here it is complete.
Creating brings me such joy, and where women create, Littles do too!

Little Em is creating bubbles.

This is soooo not perfect, but I think it adds the little bit of whimsy that I need.
It also serves as a nice little backdrop to all the many moments that will happen there.

{I need to go thrift-ing again, to find some more sheets for this summer.
Who wants to go?}

Little Em is getting some likes from Where Women Create. I saw this today.

So, that's just a taste of what I do and what I'll share. Thrifty, fun, imaginative and as original as can be.
There are so many things that we all see, it is hard to be completely original.
Just be you, this is just an idea, as simple as can be, change it, add to it, make it different...you are unique.

If you'd like to share your fort...Go to Mommer Moments Facebook page and hash tag, #MommerMomentsforts.  I'd love to see your creation. :)
